Meet The Ownership Team

Tom Barrett, President Tom Barrett, Past President of Environmental Construction Inc., graduated from Ohio State University in 1979 with a BS degree in Landscape Horticulture. He founded Environmental Construction, Inc. in 1990 with an eye toward creating a multi-generational business. After creating gardens and improving outdoor spaces in Northwest Washington for more than 46 years, on December 31, 2024, he was fortunate to pass his company ownership and mentorship on to his most trusted business partners, Lori Beehner, and Jon Daughtry. While keeping his foot in the door to mentor new team members as much as possible, and after a lifetime of designing and building gardens, he could not be prouder to pass company ownership on to Lori and Jon.

Lori Beehner, Logistic Manager Lori Beehner, President, Garden Stewardship Manager, Designer and Estimator. Business Owner: Lori started to install gardens with Environmental Construction, Inc. in February of 2004 and we have never looked back since. With more than 21 years under her belt with this company, Lori has become a green industry force. Her sense of creativity, organizational skills, client communication, staff mentoring, and quality control have cemented her role as the new managing partner of this company.

Lori envisioned and created our team of Garden Stewards since its inception in 2010. Through her leadership, and using Microsoft Teams, each of our garden stewards (through writing and photographs) can follow and document their observations, recommendations, and to do lists. Under this system, our lead gardeners can effectively communicate with clients and direct priorities to our crew for each visit. This creates efficiency and streamlines our crews by being prepared with proper tools and materials before our next site visit. This system, and our team communication is what sets us apart from other maintenance companies.

With new responsibilities of managing the company on a whole, Lori is passing the torch to her team that carries the same vision for maintaining quality landscapes and providing top notch customer service. She can now focus on ensuring the company maintains our vision and passion for creating beautiful gardens and having a well-versed team to support a productive company.

Jonathan Daughtry, Landscape Foreman Jon Daughtry, Vice President, Landscape Construction Supervisor, Logistics Manager, Lead Estimator. Business Owner: Jon has been with Environmental Construction, Inc. since August 2007. With Jon’s interest lying primarily on the construction side, there is no construction project that is too big or too small for him to take on. Jon has not only earned the respect of his construction crews who work directly for this company, but he has also earned the respect of countless other tradespeople who will take his call and who enjoy the opportunity to work with our construction teams on more complex projects.

Jon is a true collaborator. His interests revolve around generally managing each construction site while helping to ensure the various construction aspects that we are involved in can happen seamlessly while considering the schedules of the various other designers we work with and potential other contractors. As of this writing, Jon handles all day-to-day construction consultations, construction research, estimating, and contract writing. Jon also manages project scheduling, and coordination of our construction clients, crews, and subcontractors when needed.

With his new responsibilities of managing the company, he has stepped up his networking with designers and other tradespeople to stay on top of trending designs and products in landscape development. This includes installation techniques, new hard-scape products, and equipment for ease of installations, especially in difficult areas. He ensures the company is on the cutting edge and providing high quality installations.

Knowing that Jon and Lori are equal partners really help ensure envconst.com’s continued growth into the future. Visiting the Contact Environmental Construction, Inc. page on this website will be your portal into our system where we can gather your personal information and project interests in one place, then reach back to you to schedule your personalized initial consultation.

Travis Bergner, Primary Landscape Technician and Lead Carpenter Travis Bergner, Primary Landscape Technician and Lead Carpenter, was hired onto the envconst.com team in April of 2010.
Our updated photo of him, as of April 2025, should fall under the category of “What difference 15 years makes”?

What aspects of our industry do you like the most?
As our residence lead-carpenter and given how Travis likes to work with his hands, this industry allows him to exercise both his mental needs to problem solve, as well as his yearning for “adult company” while tackling some of our more complex construction projects.

What do you consider your specialties to be?
Travis is cool, calm, and collected as he faces and works through the challenging jobs that we ask him to tackle. His capacity to understand various complex carpentry challenges makes him ideally suited for our outdoor kitchens, decks, pergolas, and other carpentry projects. Travis has also become a skilled mason.

What motivated you to transition into green industry work?
Fifteen years ago, when I was at softball batting practice, my old friend Lori Beehner was the catcher. I remember she said to me “hey Travis, I hear you do landscaping, want to come to work at Environmental Construction”? Well, I needed a job, and she was looking for help. What can I say? Opportunity knocked all those years ago and none of us has ever looked back.

Why do I work for Environmental Construction, Inc?
I have worked here non-stop all these years because of the way the entire ownership group (Tom, Lori and Jon), as well as my teammates on the various crews show mutual support for each other. As my life has unfolded, I have developed an unbounded appreciation for the sense of belonging and patience they have allowed me to enjoy. Working here also helps satisfy my lifelong obsession for playing in the dirt.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Back in the day my list of things most folks didn’t know about me included my love of puff pastries, playing my Spectize Bass Guitar, and my penchant for living on the edge. Now a days, I just wish I had spare time 😊

I believe that gardening is both relaxing and rewarding. I love that I am forever learning more & more day by day. I enjoy designing and creating beautiful outdoor spaces and find it to be extremely satisfying & FUN! To be true, while I always say yes, I do it for my physical health, I mostly do this for my mental health. It’s one of my favorite ways to express myself & be creative.

What do you consider your specialties to be?
Detailing & design. I have a keen eye for detail, I enjoy making anything look beautiful and sharp.

Corey Bailey, Garden Steward and his horse Corey Bailey, Garden Steward, hired into the envconst.com fold in April of 2024.

When we asked Cory what aspect of working in the green industry he liked the most, he replied that he really enjoyed how every day was different.

Corey believes that his work ethic sets him apart, and we couldn’t agree more. Between his interest in gardening and his great work ethic, Corey has become one of our most reliable and on-time-to-work Garden Stewards.

When asked what motivated him to transition into green industry work, he replied that he had become interested enough in all the different plants that he wanted to expand his plant knowledge. That was the opportunity that working at Environmental Construction, Inc gave to him. We are happy to help Corey!

People might be surprised to learn that he owns a horse named “James” that he loves to ride in his spare time.

We are happy to have Corey on our team!

 - Landscape Construction David Johnson, Garden Steward, joined us in August of 2024.

What aspects of our industry do you like the most?

What motivated you to transition into green industry work?
My very first job ever, when I was 16, a different gardener destroyed my cousin’s garden, and she hired me to help her dig up 2 acres of Crab Grass to be re-seeded. I liked the money, and I liked the experience.

Why do I work for Environmental Construction, Inc?
I saw that this company had the potential to reach the level of private residential gardening that I always knew was possible. It’s a fit!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
When I’m not gardening, my first love is painting. I also like to play the guitar plus I am a computer nerd - including building them. I like gaming.

Meet Our Office Team

Jessica Barrett - Office Team Jessica Barrett was hired into the envconst.com fold in March of 2024.

What aspects of our industry do you like the most?
As a Mortgage Banking Assistant by day, I liked the opportunity that was presented to me to streamline the company office flow and to take Environmental Construction, Inc. into the world of “paperless bookkeeping”. From time sheets to receipt recording, assigning expenses to each client, to automating payroll, this has been very rewarding.

What do you consider your specialties to be?
My specialty would be the organizational skills I have brought into the company office. I was tasked with taking the company my father started and bringing it into the 21rst century by putting in place new processes and protocols. We can now run the office completely remotely while maintaining a digital footprint.

What motivated you to transition into green industry work?
Like some of the other folks in this company, both my mother and my father who started this company, ran different garden design / build businesses. To secure the stability of their marriage, they remained direct, but mutually supportive competitors through my years of growing up. By the time I was an adult, I understood the language of the green industry and when the opportunity to help organize the business for the next generation of owners came up, I couldn’t say no.

Why do I work for Environmental Construction, Inc?
I like the faith, respect, and autonomy that Lori Beehner and Jon Daughtry (our newest business owner’s) have in me. Managing their office is a blast!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I like to travel around the greater USA in my newly acquired Sprinter Van while being able to work remotely. I love to read and hang out with my best lifelong friends and my family.

Billie Knisley - Office Team Billie Knisley, hired on in August of 2020

What aspects of our industry do you like the most?
As a person who came up working in Integrated technology, working here has allowed me to grow into a terrific role as our client liaison for all our garden Stewardship clients while helping Lori with expense tracking, scheduling and invoicing.

What do you consider your specialties to be?
My specialties include synchronizing various software platforms like MS Office, Quick Books Pro, and Big Time (a time and expense tracking platform) to handle daily office and accounting duties from Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, HR and Payroll, as well as much of the daily client communication.

What motivated you to transition into green industry work?
Like our Travis Bergner, it was all about timing and who I knew. In my case, it was Jon Daughtry who learned I was looking for work and invited me to interview back in the day.

Why do I work for Environmental Construction, Inc?
I think we all like the opportunity to bring our expertise to the table and to be part of the team at Environmental Construction! The owner group at this company seems to excel at tapping into each our strengths and encouraging our personal growth.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy photography, working with technology, camping, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Barbara Stock-Barrett - Office Team Barbara Stock-Barrett became a part time independent design / build consultant for Environmental Construction, Inc. in the fall of 2020.

Who is Barbara?
Barbara Stock graduated from Edmonds School of Horticulture and then became a well-known landscape design and builder in her own right. When she met and married our past President Tom Barrett back in 1995, she already had a successful business called Stock and Hill Landscapes, Inc. with her partner Staci Hill. As she and Tom went about the “business” of combining their lives and family back in the day, it just seemed simpler to keep their individual businesses separated. And that is exactly what they did for the next 25 years until the day came when Barbara retired in the fall of 2020.

What do you consider your specialties to be?
Barb has always enjoyed creating functional spaces surrounded by various plant selections that exceed her clients’ expectations. When her clients find themselves immersed in a beautiful, private, and colorful garden, then she has met her goals.

What motivated you to transition into green industry work?
It was my Uncle Charlie in California where I grew up who had acres of beautiful perennial flowers that I got to play in as a child. It was his garden where I found myself marveling at how they filled my vision with color and texture. I was hooked from a very early age.

Why do I work for Environmental Construction, Inc?
The people we work with are everything when it comes to how a garden turns out. These guys know what they are doing with skills built on decades of experience. When I retired from my own company, this was an easy fit to slide into.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Now I am happy to spend a little of my free time sharing what I’ve learned over the years with this company’s ownership team and employees. I think it’s what we should do. It was the mentoring I enjoyed over many years that helped make me successful.

It is fair to say that we at Environmental Construction, Inc. are happy to have the opportunity to collaborate with Barbara on a limited basis as her interests are piqued and her time allows.
